The River Thames is one of England’s finest boating and recreational assets. Powered boating, canoeing, sailing, rowing, walking and angling are just a few of the activities that take place. The River User Groups were setup to provide a forum to discuss and resolve issues affecting these river activities. This website provides a way to share and communicate the debates and the decisions made in the public meetings.

RUG 8 – Bell Weir to Teddington
Formed in 1983 to co-ordinate river activity. To act as a conduit for information between all the authorities working on or by the river between these two locks

Working with the Environment Agency at all levels in their management of the River Thames

Membership is open to any group who live, work or use the river for recreation – either on it, under it or on its banks

Local Authorities on either side of the river are welcomed as members, as are the police, and other emergency services

Currently in membership there are over 170 different groups

Like all RUG groups, RUG 8 is financed by the Environment Agency, but is managed by volunteers
